Silkwave Inc., in collaboration with Filipino technology solutions provider Smart Citi Teknologi, is set to revolutionize internet connectivity in the Philippines. Their partnership aims to bring satellite broadband internet and digital multimedia services to villages, smart cities, and government applications across the country.
At the groundbreaking event, Hon. Rodante Marcoleta, a prominent advocate of communications technology, delivered the keynote speech emphasizing the importance of high-bandwidth connectivity in rural areas. He highlighted the positive impact this technological development will have on the lives of the majority of Filipinos.
Charles Wong, the CEO of Silkwave, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with Smart Citi Teknologi and their shared goal of providing satellite broadband internet services in the Philippines. He specifically mentioned their focus on delivering last-mile WiFi and satellite WiFi connectivity to remote communities and villages, addressing the lack of access to digital connectivity in these areas.
In addition to serving communities, Wong mentioned the company’s intention to provide emergency broadcasting services during natural disasters and calamities, working closely with the government. Talks have already begun, and a trial process is expected to commence soon.
To demonstrate the effectiveness of their services, Silkwave and Smart Citi Teknologi plan to conduct pilot tests at three sites in the country, targeting a province, an island, and an urban setting. This proof of concept will allow them to fine-tune their connectivity services before a wider rollout.
Silkwave, with its L-band mobile broadcasting satellite called Asia-Star, already covers the entire Asian region. This satellite enables the delivery of internet protocol-based data services to unlimited users and devices, regardless of location or weather conditions. However, the company is currently working on building a new satellite, scheduled to launch in 2025. This new satellite promises 100 times faster connectivity, wider coverage, and a higher power level, allowing for a more extensive mass market rollout.
The collaboration between Silkwave Inc. and Smart Citi Teknologi is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in the Philippines. With their satellite broadband internet and digital multimedia connectivity services, they aim to bring the benefits of high-speed internet to even the most remote areas of the country, improving the lives of countless Filipinos and fostering economic growth and development.
Silkwave owns the L-band mobile broadcasting or multi-casting satellite Asia-Star, which covers the whole Asia.
The satellite can deliver a vast amount of internet protocol-based data services directly from satellite to unlimited users and devices anywhere in the region in all mobile, wireless, and remote environments, as well as in all weather conditions.
Wong said a new satellite is being built to replace Asia-Star. To be launched in 2025, Silkwave’s new satellite will feature 100 times connectivity speed, wider reach, and high power level to carry out the mass market rollout.
