Authorities in Texas are searching for a pregnant teen who is past her delivery date and believed to be in danger.
Savanah Soto, 18, was last seen in a Kia Optima about 2 p.m. Friday on the 6000 block of Grissom Road in Leon Valley, the city’s police department said Tuesday in a statement.
“Law enforcement officials believe this person’s disappearance poses a credible threat to their own health and safety,” police said, noting a CLEAR Alert was issued for the missing teen.
The CLEAR Alert was created in 2019 to help law enforcement in finding and rescuing missing, kidnapped or abducted adults who are in immediate danger of injury or death, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. CLEAR stands for Coordinated Law Enforcement Adult Rescue.
The city of Leon Valley, which is about 12 miles northwest of San Antonio, posted on its Facebook page: “Ms. Soto, who is pregnant and has passed her delivery date, has caused significant concern among her family members after missing an essential medical appointment. The family initially reached out to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), and a CLEAR alert was issued.”
The city added: “The Leon Valley Police Department has initiated an investigation into her disappearance. Detectives and officers are actively investigating and seeking additional witnesses and information.”
NBC affiliate WOAI of San Antonio spoke to Soto’s family, who said the teenager hasn’t been seen since the day before she was scheduled to be induced.
“I just need to know that she’s OK,” Soto’s mother, Gloria Cordova, said.
Cordova pleaded with the public for information about her daughter’s whereabouts. She also filed a police report with Leon Valley over the weekend, WOAI reported.
Since last speaking to her daughter, Cordova said there’s been no contact with her.
“I just want her home. I’m worried about the baby — if she’s even had the baby,” she told the news station.
Cordova said she believes her daughter is in trouble.
“There’s no reason why she would just get up and go off and do that,” she said.
In a Facebook post, Cordova wrote her daughter is with her boyfriend. Authorities have not confirmed that detail.
Cordova said Soto would not disappear on her own accord in light of the death of her brother, 15-year-old Ethan Soto, in 2022.
“She knows what I went through with Ethan and I know she doesn’t want me to go through this again. Come home I just want her to come home I just want her to call me and told me she’s OK,” Cordova told WOAI.
Soto is 5-foot-1, weighs 115 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes, police said. If anyone has information about Soto’s whereabouts, they are urged to contact Leon Valley police at 210-812-3259.
“God, hear my prayers and bring my granddaughter and my great grandson back home,” the teen’s grandmother, Rachel Soto, told the news station. “That’s all we want.”
