Thousands of surgical masks was happily received by an OFW medical organization in Hong Kong from a Philippine foundation.

The SMART Foundation, through its president Mr. Mario Marcos travelled to Hong Kong to bring 18,000 pieces of surgical masks for the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) here in Hong Kong. The OFW organization World Medical Support Services Hong Kong Chapter workers is the recipient of the masks donation.

Currently, thousands queue up to buy face masks in Hong Kong, but many are left frustrated by the citywide shortages. And with the price of these facial coverings going through the roof due to the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus, the situation easily render the hundreds of thousands of HK’s foreign domestic workers deprived of the most basic protection from the virus.

The Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong, led by Consul General Raly L. Tejada witnessed the donation handover which was received by WOMED-HK for them to distribute to as many individuals who need it especially OFW domestic workers.

The president of SMART Foundation said that it is its advocacy to help those in need so when he learn about the appeal for help from our OFW compatriots he flew to Hong Kong as soon as he can to donate the masks which he ordered from Taiwan.

According to Juanita Bulaon, a nurse and current leader of WOMED-HK, the donation is a huge help for the OFW community since this is one of the main requirements in preventing the spread of the coronavirus in the city. The cheapest box of 50 pieces of facial mask now cost HK$250.00 each.
