The Virtual Presser hosts episode in Bahrain

After a series of intergovernmental meetings with officials of the Kingdom Bahrain, the 14-man Philippine delegation led by Special Envoy and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs (PAFA) Robert E.A. Borje commenced the third day official mission to Bahrain with a virtual presser with international news agencies.


Special Envoy and PAFA Borje stressed that the Philippine government recognizes the Kingdom of Bahrain as a regional and global leader protecting and upholding migrant workers’ rights. He also underscored that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte values the relationship between both countries as a “partnership of brothers”.

Joining Special Envoy and PAFA Borje in the press conference held on December 30, 2020 were Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Arriola and Philippine Ambassador to Kingdom of Bahrain Alfonso Ver.

Special Envoy and PAFA Borje stressed that the Philippine government recognizes the Kingdom of Bahrain as a regional and global leader protecting and upholding migrant workers’ rights. He also underscored that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte values the relationship between both countries as a “partnership of brothers”.

He lauded the Kingdom of Bahrain’s landmark institutional programs benefiting migrant workers regardless of their status.

Special Envoy Borje also underscored that kalinga and malasakit for Overseas Filipinos in the Middle East are important components of the Duterte Administration’s program for the Filipinos overseas.

Undersecretary Arriola, on the other hand, highlighted the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in managing the pandemic crisis in the Gulf state. She lauded the successful implementation of Bahrain’s Flexible Work Visa which provided a pathway to regularization for over a 1,000 Filipino migrants.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Ver stated that over 300 Filipino migrant workers in the Gulf state had undertaken the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) and Repatriation Programs during the pandemic crisis. Further, he discussed that the Philippine delegation will be joined by a group of Filipino migrant workers who will return to the Philippines as part of the repatriation program.
